We love seeing you in class each week. We love making music with you in person each week. We know you love seeing each other and connecting with friends and your community. We all know we cannot meet in person, at least for now. With that in mind the spring 2021 session will start with classes through Zoom. To register, click here. Over the past year we’ve done an enormous amount of work to ensure that the online classes are interactive, fun and fully support development. It isn’t the same as breathing in the outside air but pedagogically it’s incredibly beneficial for the kids, lots of fun and something they can continue to explore and play with all week long. Classes over Zoom are definitely not a sit and stare activity.

What will that look like?

  • Your Zoom class will be on the same day and at the same time as the class you registered for, when we can move to in person outdoors your class will continue on that same day and time.
  • You will receive a digital download code for the music, as well as a CD and the songbook. There are new, never heard before Music Together® songs in both the Triangle and Jaguar (Rhythm Kids®) collection this spring! Having the music and songbook at home is one of the aspects which has always made Music Together the gold standard of Early Childhood Music Making.
  • The classes over Zoom will be interactive and supportive of your child's music and overall development.
  • Your child does not need to see the screen! What they need to see, as always, is the adult they know and love making music, having fun making music, playing with music, being goofy with the music. Your efforts and attempts to make music are what encourage your child to try it themself; as we've always said, they neither care nor notice how good or accurate you might be. The recordings they hear take care of the accuracy side of things; while you take care of the fun and joy.
  • We'll use instruments, bought or from home, our voices and objects from around the house all to encourage your child to explore the collection, to see the songs in new ways, to build their musical foundation (that building work is under construction throughout their preschool years) and make music at home. (We've always aimed to encourage you and your children to make music all week long!)
  • You will still make the most of the music and songbook, providing the developmental support we know your child needs, emotionally and cognitively and of course musically.
  • The social aspect we know needs support and will look at little different whilst we have class over Zoom: kids can still sing with friends during the class, they can still dance to the music, they can still connect with grandparents giving them a lift too by sharing a song, you can still have a dance party, you can still use tupperware as percussion, you can still sing with your neighbours over the back yard fence or from front door step!
  • The online classes are pedagogically designed to support you in supporting your child, in your own home.
  • What it won't look like:
  • Your child sitting still staring, mouth-open at the screen! We recognise that many of us don't want our kids in front of the screen for any time at all or at least limit that screen time. The classes will engage your child, give you ways of engaging your child and sometimes ask your child to go and get something (e.g. a sock, teddy bear, block etc.) to use while music-making with us and sometimes we'll ask them to bring something specific for the next class.
  • We never ask children to sit still in class and we won't be expecting that now either.

There are hints on making the most of the online classes here. We believe whole-heartedly in making music accessible to everyone, for everyone to share the numerous benefits, especially at a time like this.
